JAWAI – LAND OF LEOPARDS
Land of the Leopard Bera is a small hamlet in the heart of Rajasthan and is a classic habitat for leopards. Over the years this location has become a hotspot for leopard sightings in India and some unique leopard behavior has been documented in this superb landscape of the Aravalli’s towering rock structures, speckled with cacti and scrub vegetation. For decades, these hillocks have been a prime habitat for these cats to thrive in, becoming a great destination for some leopard specific photography. The leopards here live in perfect harmony with the nomadic Rabari tribe thus making Jawai one of the world’s most fascinating stories of peaceful human-leopard co-existence.
Apart from leopards, you can also spot the rare rusty-spotted cat, striped hyena, sloth bear, desert cat, and chinkaras in this landscape.
Best Time To Visit
- Leopard sightings are good throughout the year but November to April is a great time.
- The winter months (November to February) are good for bird photography at the Jawai dam. Flamingos and pelicans are some of the key bird species you can find out there.
